Components of Equine Assessment

  • History of Individual
  • Presenting Complaint and Nature of Injury
  • Review treatments, injections, or surgeries previously performed for presenting complaint
  • Standing Inspection (Observation, Palpation, Range of Motion)
  • Gait observation with video recording (consent required by Owner of Individual) unmounted and/or mounted by usual rider over soft and hard surfaces
  • Review of available diagnostic imagery/readings of individual
  • Review of DVM diagnosis/prognosis
  • Discussion if horse is amenable to rehabilitation with DVM
  • Discuss owner’s expectation of rehabilitation
  • Create/Develop in collaboration with DVM outcomes/goals that are realistic, responsible, and timely with adjustments to rehab care plan
